WHO WILL BE CCW WOMAN OF THE YEAR?
Nominations have been received and the voting is taking place for this year’s Woman of the Year Award!
Who will it be?
Every parish has a woman worthy of this award. However, she will only be chosen if she has been nominated. The New Ulm Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will again be presenting the Woman of the Year Award at the annual convention to be held at St. Raphael’s in Springfield on Saturday, April 25, 2009. This is an exciting award and one good reason to attend the NUDCCW Annual Convention. I remember years ago as a CCW Parish President the fun we had in submitting our nomination for this very special award. I remember getting the phone call that our nominee had been selected. It just so happened that we were also hosting the convention that year in Sleepy Eye. I remember also, the difficulty in coaxing her out of the kitchen so that she would be present to receive her award. Of course, she was my chairperson for the convention dinner that day, Donna Helget. St. Mary’s in Sleepy Eye had two other women receive this award as well, Betty Heymans and Kathy Wichmann. Yes, they were very deserving, but because we took the time to nominate them they were considered and due to their accomplishments they were selected for that year. Hopefully, you will either begin or continue nominating deserving women from your parish for
this award.
Thank you to those women that did nominate someone from their parish. I look forward to presenting her with this very special award at convention. As I mentioned, the Woman of the Year award is just one reason, there are many good reasons to attend the convention. Many of you have attended for years. If you have not taken the opportunity to attend, I suggest this be the year you do so. Once you find out what you are missing, you will make it a point to be there every year. I have always been glad that I attended and I guarantee you will too!
